Graded 10 reflection
Graded 10 reflection
Grade 10 is an ordinary year in my life, nothing really special happened. I reached 16. I remember when I was small, like 9 or 10 years old, I really looked forward to being 16 because I thought that I will become a popular and shining person when I get sixteen. But now I'm still an ugly ordinary girl.
I take 8 classes this year and I'm really poor at Math and sometimes get really low grades in some of my English assignments. It seems hard to get an A. I prepared for TOEFL. Although I didn't consider it important at first, I realized the importance of it soon.
I think the biggest challenge I faced this year was the work on yearbook for the Yearbook course. I was the journalism in my group, responsible for the introduction articles of the activities. I never did something like that before in my life. I never did the work of journalism. I knew that I need to interview people, but I was too shy to talk to teachers and students I didn't know. I remained doing nothing for the first few weeks because I just didn't know where to start, what to do. I cannot go and interview during activity times because I had activity every day.
But life went on, I must take steps. So I went to take a picture of the activities and their responsible teachers to get a rough idea of who I should talk to. Then I prepared a notebook and a pen. During Yearbook, I went out and interviewed. The first teacher I went to was Mr. Coyne, the Community Service teacher. He was really happy to be interviewed and answered every question I asked. I felt better about this job now and started to feel eager to know more about all those activities and to know more people and teachers. I could hear about what’s coming up on campus because some of the activities teachers were working on presentations or something, and they told me about those things excitedly. The teachers were really friendly, and I didn't feel shy anymore.
Trying to capture a teacher was also a hard problem. I didn't know what times the teachers were available. But I had a very long time to complete this work, so finally I captured all the teachers one by one and got all the interview I needed :D
I really experienced and learned a lot this year. I did many things I never did before. I didn't really have friends when I was in the US one year ago. My classmates talked to me mainly because they want to know what Chinese were really like and I was poor at English that time. But now I made friends who have common interests with me and are happy to talk to me and help each other. At least I think I did have a meaningful year.
